Wonder Man is a superhero comic, created by Will Eisner, whose first (and only) appearance was in Wonder Comics # 1 (May 1939).
The Secret Identity of Wonder Man is Fred Carson. During a trip to Tibet, an old monk grants Carson a ring that gave him the power to fight evil, when the need arises. His powers are almost exactly like those of Superman, the character he was based. He had super strength, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and reasonably invulnerable, repelling bullets from his body. The Lois Lane analog was Brenda Hastings, who had only contempt for Fred, but was fascinated by Wonder Man
The character is of some historical importance because of the lawsuit that resulted in his only appearance.
Wonder Man was created by Will Eisner Eisner-Iger studio for publisher Victor Fox, who was publishing magazines on astrology, when faced with reports from his distributor on the incredible sales of the National Action Comics Periodicals in February 1939 with the debut of Superman. He immediately decided to get into the comic book business, hiring Will Eisner, the creator of The Spirit. Using the pen name of Willis, Eisner wrote and drew the first edition Wonder Comics, which appeared in the news less than six weeks later.
On March 15, 1939, DC Comics launched a lawsuit for copyright infringement against Fox because of the similarities of the character with Superman. The case went to trial in 1940. Eisner defended the originality of their creation, but, despite this testimony, the decision later forced him to stop Fox Wonder Man.
Wonder Comics, however, continued as a title, with the Great Yarko in issue # 2, then changed its name to The Flame in Wonderworld Comics # 3 and continued for over 30 editions.
This process was first copyright in the comic book and create a precedent for the DC Comics vigorous protection of their characters.
We are introduced (or, more precisely, re-introduced) to Wonder Man, aka Fred Carson, to accompany him on his adventures classic. We can make some "flash forwards" - despite their adventures happen in 1930s/1940s (let's be vague about the exact year), we hear references to his "modern life." We're taking a unique approach, looking for a character whose strength is "better" through his inner tranquility, but hopefully, this is a strong re-vision and re-interpretation of a character who only appeared once ... and was defeated by a lawsuit, because it seems too much to Superman. This is the first stand-alone story, an adventure that focuses on what happens when he meets an old enemy ... and a new enemy.
